Bellingham man arrested for stalking, threatening woman again, plus the detective

A Bellingham man already charged with felony stalking and harassment was arrested Jan. 22 for allegedly continuing to threaten and harass the same victim, as well as threaten the detective who initially arrested him.

Shaun Michael Dickison, 31, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of two counts of felony harassment and one count of felony stalking. Dickison is currently incarcerated in the Whatcom County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail, according to Whatcom County Superior Court records.

Dickison’s arraignment for his new case is scheduled for Jan. 31.

Dickison was previously charged with one count each of felony stalking and felony harassment on Dec. 11, 2019, for allegedly harassing, intimidating, tormenting, embarrassing and threatening a woman he had never met or had any relationship with, according to court records.

In that case, the local FBI office referred a case to the Bellingham Police Department in mid-August 2019. The woman told Bellingham police she has never met Dickison or had any relationship with him, but that he had harassed her online through various social media platforms, according to court records. The woman provided screenshots of hundreds of comments and statements made to her in earlier months.

The comments and statements, which also came via email, persisted even after the woman had multiple anti-harassment orders served to Dickison in multiple states, court records state. Some of the messages date back to 2018, court records show.

Dickison pleaded not guilty in that case, was released from jail on Dec. 23 on $5,000 bond, and has a jury trial set for Feb. 10, according to court records.

On Jan. 10, the Bellingham police detective who initially investigated Dickison’s case was contacted by the same woman Dickison had allegedly previously harassed. The woman told the detective that Dickison had created a new Twitter account in which he sent her 145 tweets between Jan. 6 and Jan. 9, court records state.

In the tweets, Dickison identifies himself as Shaun, refers to the previous case, judge, prosecutor and detective and also names the woman by first and last name, court records state. Dickison also allegedly threatens bodily injury and to kill both the woman and the detective and his family in retaliation for his arrest, court records state.

The woman told the detective she is in “great fear” Dickison will harm her, the records state. The woman has moved to three different states, but Dickison has found her each time, court records show. He has also found multiple addresses and phone numbers for the woman, and at one point sent her a screenshot of how long it would take him to hitchhike to her current location, according to court records.

The woman has been in contact with multiple law enforcement agencies in each state, and her employer has had to take security measures to protect her, the records state.

In some of the tweets recently sent to the woman, Dickison also mentioned the detective who arrested him by name and said he would shoot the detective in the police department parking lot, court records state. Dickison has also threatened the detective’s family and “has demonstrated an ability and motivation to locate people and places,” the court records state.

Dickison does not appear to have prior felony history in Whatcom County.
