Bellingham’s average home rental price is now 11% higher than national average
Our recent rental price survey shows Bellingham’s average home rental prices increased compared to last month’s survey, as the average for other cities across Whatcom County and Washington’s also jumped.
Bellingham
The average price for a Bellingham rental unit including all bedrooms and all property types was $2,234 on July 5, according to data from Zillow. That’s an increase of $37 compared to June’s average price, and an increase of $84 compared to July 2025.
“The price range for all bedrooms and all property types is $600 to $13,211,” according to Zillow’s July data. Bellingham’s average rental price in July is 11% higher than the national average, according to Zillow.
Whatcom County
Zillow rent price data can also be compared by city. Here are Whatcom County’s average rent prices on July 5, compared to June:
- Everson: Decreased to $1,600.
- Sumas: Increased to $1,825.
- Birch Bay: Increased to $2,014.
- Ferndale: Increased to $2,100.
- Bellingham: Increased to $2,232.
- Lynden: Increased to $2,300.
- Deming: Increased to $2,395.
- Blaine: Increased to $2,500.
- Point Roberts: Increased to $3,100.
Compared to last month, only Everson experienced a drop in average rent.
Washington
Zillow also tracks and compares rental prices by state. The average price for rentals of all bedrooms and all property types across Washington was $2,072 on July 5, according to data from Zillow. That’s $72 more than June’s average price, and a $68 decrease compared to July of last year.
The average rental prices vary between $1,410 per month for a studio apartment to $5,060 for a four-bedroom unit, according to Zillow’s July data.
Washington’s average rental price is 3% higher than the national average in July. It was in line with the national average in June.
According to Zillow, Washington’s average rent price is still less than some other states with a high cost of living. In July, California’s average rental price is $2,700, while Colorado is at $2,144, Massachusetts is at $3,200, New York is at $3,200, Hawaii is at $3,200 and New Jersey is at $2,400.
Compared to neighboring states, Washington’s average rental prices are more expensive. Oregon’s average is $1,745 and Idaho’s average is $1,720.
