Lynden restaurant reopens under new ownership

Border Town Pizza hosting a grand reopening event after ownership changed.

The new owners, Tami and Kamal Bhachu, took over the business last month, according to a June 1 Facebook post from the restaurant.

“As of today, Border Town Pizza is under new ownership,” the Facebook post states. “Wonderful changes will be coming, with the same great flavors and staff! We are so incredibly proud of serving our community for 11 years, and will miss you all dearly. Alas, it was time for us to retire and spend more time with family.”

The restaurant held its grand reopening event Saturday, June 27.

Border Town Pizza is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday at 738 Peace Portal Drive in Blaine.

Local unemployment rate shows decrease

The latest data update from the Washington State Employment Security Department shows Whatcom County’s unemployment rate decreased slightly from April to May.

In April, the unemployment rate was 4.8% in Whatcom County, with 5,528 people unemployed. In May, the county had a 4.5% unemployment rate with 5,264 unemployed people, a slight decrease of 264 unemployed residents.
