The vehicles involved were a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu and a 1999 Toyota Camry, according to Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred when the Malibu, which was eastbound, crossed the center line and struck the Camry. The collision caused the Malibu to catch fire, according to Slater.

Stroud was identified soon after the collision, but a consultant was brought in to identify Burner on Monday, May 25, according to Trapp.

The cause of death for Stroud has been determined as multiple blunt force injuries. For Burner, it was blunt force and thermal injuries, Trapp told The Bellingham Herald.

Both drivers were travelling alone.
