Two people killed in head-on collision north of Bellingham

Two people were declared dead following a two-vehicle, head-on collision Monday night in Bellingham.

The incident was reported at 11:33 p.m. in the 200 block of West Axton Road, according to the PulsePoint emergency services app. One of the vehicles caught fire, and both drivers were declared dead at the scene, according to Deb Slater with The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

Neither driver had a passenger in the car.

One of the deceased is Edward Stroud, 69, according to Louise Trapp with the Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office. The other driver has not yet been publicly identified.
