Court docs: Bellingham woman charged with attempted murder was using psilocybin
A Bellingham woman has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder after trying to kill two young children.
Brenda Doreen Wilder-Brown, 43, was arrested Saturday afternoon after a 9-year-old child called police from a neighbor’s house to report that their 4-year-old sibling was stabbed.
“I ran as fast as I could,” the child told the dispatcher. “It was the scariest thing ever.”
The 4-year-old was found with 15 knife wounds when police arrived, according to court records. There was also evidence that they were strangled. Both siblings were taken to the hospital, though the 9-year-old was unharmed.
Officers found Wilder-Brown outside sitting in flower bushes and “covered in blood.” Police said she was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment for self-inflicted wounds before being booked into Whatcom County Jail.
Court documents show that on May 11, five days before the attempted murder, Wilder-Brown went to Orcas Island with friends and used psilocybin mushrooms. She told officers that she had visions of “the way the universe knows itself.”
When she returned to Bellingham on Friday, she couldn’t sleep “because of noticing all the details of eternity all day.” She said she planned on killing the two children using sleeping pills to “make the future more beautiful for all of them.”
On Saturday, when she was with the two children, she had a “black-out” period, according to court records. She came back to herself and, after realizing she possibly hurt one of the kids, tried to jump out the second-story window.
Police found a broken glass window, suspected psilocybin mushrooms and a bloody knife at the residence, court documents show. There was blood inside and outside the home.
Officers believe Wilder-Brown used the psilocybin mushrooms prior to the attempted murders.
Wilder-Brown was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. She remains in custody without bail.
