A 43-year-old Bellingham woman has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Bellingham Police Department Lt. Claudia Murphy said police were called to the 2300 block of Lisa Lane on Saturday at about 4:30 p.m. for reports of an assault. Dispatchers were told that the woman intended to kill two people known to her and took “substantial steps” to do so.

Murphy said further investigation showed that the woman cut one of the victims with a knife and attempted to strangle them. They were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second victim was not physically harmed and was able to escape and call 911.

The 43-year-old was arrested on the scene and was treated at the hospital for self-inflicted injuries. She was then booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of two counts of attempted first-degree murder. She is being held without bail ahead of her first court appearance and has yet to be formally charged.
