April home rental prices: Here’s where Whatcom County rent is rising, falling
A recent survey shows average home rental prices varying across Whatcom County compared to March, with a difference of over $1,000 per month between the most expensive and least expensive towns.
Bellingham rental prices
The average price for Bellingham rentals of all bedrooms and all property types was $2,350 on April 8, according to data from Zillow. That’s a decrease of $35 compared to March’s average price, and a decrease of $45 compared to April 2025.
“The price range for all bedrooms and all property types is $691 to $11,000,” according to Zillow’s April data, and Bellingham’s average rental price is 18% higher to the national average in April.
Whatcom County rental prices
Zillow rent price data can also be compared by city. Here are Whatcom County’s average rent prices for April 8:
- Deming: Decreased to $2,850
- Blaine: Stayed the same as last month at $2,400
- Bellingham: Decreased to $2,350
- Ferndale: Increased to $2,245
- Point Roberts: Increased to $2,200
- Everson: Stayed the same as last month at $2,000
- Birch Bay: Stayed the same as last month at $2,000
- Sumas: Increased to $1,850
- Lynden: Decreased to $1,800
Compared to last month, prices decreased in three cities, increased in three, and remained level in three.
Washington
Zillow also tracks and compares rental prices by state.
The average price for rentals of all bedrooms and all property types across Washington was $1,995 on April 8, according to data from Zillow. That’s a decrease of $4 compared to March’s average price, and the average price remained the same compared to April 2025.
The average rental prices vary between $1,405 per month for a studio apartment to $6,489 for a four-bedroom rental, according to Zillow’s April data.
Washington’s average rental price is 7% higher than the national average in April, and it has some of the most expensive average prices by market in the country.
According to Zillow, Washington’s average is slightly below California’s average rental price of $2,683, Colorado at $2,049, Massachusetts at $3,200, New York at $3,150, Hawaii at $3,033 and New Jersey at $2,450.
Compared to neighboring states, Washington’s average rental prices are more expensive. Oregon’s average was $1,745 and Idaho was at $1,750.
