Whatcom County home rental survey shows where rents are falling or rising
A recent survey shows average home rental prices holding steady or decreasing in most Whatcom County towns and cities so far compared to February.
Bellingham rental prices
The average price for Bellingham rentals of all bedrooms and all property types was $2,250 on March 2, according to data from Zillow. That’s an increase of $250 compared to February’s average price, and an increase of $200 compared to March 2025.
“The price range for all bedrooms and all property types is $600 to $11,000,” according to Zillow’s March data, and Bellingham’s average rental price is 13% higher to the national average in March, an increase compared to 0.25% in February.
Whatcom County rental prices
Zillow rent price data can also be compared by city. Here are Whatcom County’s average rent prices for March 2:
- Blaine: $2,400, a decrease compared to last month
- Deming: Increased to $3,500
- Lynden: Decreased to $2,050
- Everson: Decreased to $2,000
- Bellingham: Increased to $2,250
- Ferndale: Decreased to $1,978
- Birch Bay: Increased to $2,000
- Point Roberts: $1,800, the same as last month
- Sumas: $1,500, the same as last month
Compared to last month, prices decreased in four cities, increased in three, and remained level in two.
Washington
Zillow also tracks and compares rental prices by state.
The average price for rentals of all bedrooms and all property types across Washington was $2,000 on March 2, according to data from Zillow. That’s a decrease of $16 compared to February’s average price, and an increase of $4 compared to March 2025.
The average rental prices vary between $1,420 per month for a studio apartment to $6,922 for a four-bedroom rental, according to Zillow’s March data.
Washington’s average rental price is the same as the national average in March, although it has some of the most expensive average prices by market in the country.
According to Zillow, Washington’s average is slightly below California’s average rental price of $2,695, Colorado at $2,070, Massachusetts at $3,150, New York at $3,000, Hawaii at $3,000 and New Jersey at $2,450.
Compared to neighboring states, Washington’s average rental prices are more expensive. Oregon’s average was $1,775 and Idaho was at $1,795.
