Whatcom Roundup: New tap house downtown; chain bakery and Portal pop-up plans

Downtown shop expands, adds tap house
Downtown Bellingham board game shop Aegis Games recently expanded.
“We feature 14-plus taps, beer, cider, wine, and of course, local root beer,” management stated in a Feb. 7 social media post. “More importantly, we will have a large selection of board games for rental, and all of our tables can be used as play space.”
The tap house officially opened Feb. 13, and it offers a variety of drinks as well as food options.
“In the near future, we will feature Board Game Leagues, Trivia Nights, Meet Ups, and more. We are also available for private events during the week,” the post states.
Aegis Games and Tap House is open from 11 a.m. to midnight daily at 1431 Railroad Ave.
Nothing Bundt Cakes plans Bellingham shop
Nothing Bundt Cakes, a national bakery chain, is planning a new location in Bellingham, according to a building permit application filed Feb. 12.
The permit is for a new bakery at 4265 Meridian St., Suite 104, next door to Trader Joe’s inside The Cordata Center. The permit had not been approved as of Feb. 13.
Bellingham distillery plans to expand
Chuckanut Bay Distillery has filed a liquor license application for an off-site tasting room at 296 W Laurel St., the location of The Portal Container Village.
The application is for an off-site spirits tasting room and service bar. It had not been approved as of Feb. 19. The Herald reached out to Chuckanut Bay Distillery for comment but did not receive a response.
