Here are the Whatcom County restaurants that opened or closed in December
Looking for a new restaurant to try out? Whatcom County saw three new eateries open in December, as three restaurants closed permanently.
New Whatcom County restaurants
Tacos Guadalajara
Tacos Guadalajara, a Mexican restaurant based in Ferndale, has opened a new location in Fairhaven.
The new restaurant opened Dec. 4, according to a social media post from the business, at the previous location of Jalapeño’s Mexican Restaurant in Bellingham’s Fairhaven neighborhood.
Tacos Guadalajara is located at 1007 Harris Ave. in Bellingham, and no operating hours have been announced.
Ginger Fusion and Bar
Lynden-based Indian restaurant Ginger Fusion and Bar opened Friday, Dec. 5.
The new eatery serves beer on tap and cocktails, South Indian dosas, North Indian curries and other fusion dishes.
Ginger Fusion and Bar is open from noon to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Monday at 8874 Bender Rd, Suite 101 in Lynden.
Frankie’s Deli
A new restaurant opened Thursday, Dec. 4, created by the owner of Doug’s Burgers in downtown Bellingham.
The new eatery, Frankie’s Deli, is connected to Doug’s Burgers at 2527 Meridian St.
Frankie’s Deli is open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, according to the restaurant’s Instagram page.
Closed Whatcom County restaurants
Flatstick Pub
Flatstick Pub, A Bellingham indoor mini golf venue, restaurant and taproom, closed permanently on Dec. 20.
“We’re so grateful for all the memories, laughs, and good times shared here over the years. From epic putt-offs and trivia nights to countless beers with friends — this community has been something special, and we can’t thank you enough for being part of it,” a Nov. 3 Instagram post announcing the closure stated.
Flatstick Pub was located at 902 N State St. in downtown Bellingham.
Wissota Chophouse
Wissota Chophouse, a steakhouse chain with locations across the country, closed its Lynden restaurant on Dec. 27.
The closure came after the restaurant celebrated its one-year anniversary in November
“We’ve truly appreciated the support of our community and all of our wonderful guests to have dined with us this past year,” a Facebook post announcing the closure states.
No other Wissota Chophouse locations have announced closures.
Wissota Chophouse was at 8155 Guide Meridian in Lynden.
Pita Pit
Pita Pit, a chain restaurant with a location in downtown Bellingham, has officially closed, according to the restaurant’s website.
The Bellingham restaurant’s closure was first hinted at in January 2024 in a Facebook post looking for potential buyers.
“After rolling pitas for 13 years, I’m hanging up my apron and looking to sell. We have a location in prime downtown area in Bellingham, Washington. If you’re looking to buy, shoot me a message, and we can chat,” the post states.
As of Dec. 31, the Bellingham location is no longer listed on the chain’s website.
Pita Pit was located at 201 East Holly St. in downtown Bellingham.
