Who handles trash pickup in Bellingham and Whatcom County?
The Sanitary Service Company collects garbage, recycling and organic waste including food scraps and yard debris in Bellingham, Ferndale, Birch Bay and Blaine, according to its website.
Will Christmas delay garbage pickup in my neighborhood?
“All collection routes will run on schedule” on Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, the Sanitary Service Company said in a Dec. 19 Facebook post, adding that “collection times on holidays may be earlier than usual.”
In other words, if your trash is normally picked up on Thursday, you can expect to see the garbage truck on Christmas Day.
“Customers with Thursday collection should set out materials the night before to ensure pick-up,” the Sanitary Service Company said.
However, company offices will close in observance of the holiday, according to the Facebook post.
The Sanitary Service Company’s Bellwether Way office will be closed from noon at Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Dec. 26.
The Bellingham transfer station will also be closed from noon Wednesday through Friday.
What is my trash collection day?
Trash collection days depending on where you live in Bellingham, Ferndale and other areas, according to the Sanitary Service Company.
You can search for your address online to “set up service alerts or to find out when your garbage, recycling and FoodPlus! Yardwaste will be collected,” the waste removal company said.
You should place your containers at the curb the night before your pickup day.
Will New Year’s Eve impact trash pickup? New Year’s Day?
According to the Sanitary Service Company, garbage will be collected as usual on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1 — New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Will my garbage be picked up on Christmas in Nooksack? Lynden?
Nooksack Valley Disposal & Recycling collects trash and recycling in Nooksack, Lynden, Everson and Sumas, according to its website.
The company collects recycling and garbage on a biweekly basis.
“We pick up on all holidays,” Nooksack Valley Disposal & Recycling said on its website.
The company said it will pick up trash and recycling early on Thursday, Dec. 25.
Residents should plan to put their bins on the curb the evening before to ensure waste is picked up.
