Was your home or business damaged by flooding in Whatcom County? If the answer is yes, you likely have debris to get rid of. The county has set up four sites for this exact purpose at no additional cost to residents.
You can drop off flood-damaged debris at the following locations:
- Stremler Yard, 9626 Swanson Rd. in Sumas. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enter on Swanson Road near the intersection of Swanson and Halverstick roads.
- RDS Disposal, 4916 Labounty Dr. in Ferndale. Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Republic Services, 1524 Slater Rd. in Ferndale. Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Trapline site in Everson, which was open over the weekend to accept flood debris, has closed.
Make sure to follow signs and on-site directions. You also must sort your debris during drop-off, separating appliances and household hazardous waste from the rest of the debris.
The following items are accepted:
- Drywall
- Insulation
- Flooring and carpet
- Furniture
- Appliances
- Similar household items
- Select household hazardous waste, including cleaners, fluorescent bulbs and lawn chemicals. See a full list of accepted items online.
The following items are not accepted:
- Tires
- Vehicles
- Asbestos
- Machinery and mechanical parts
- Household trash
- Items not damaged by flooding
- Trees or other woody debris
These disposal services are being funded by county solid waste fees. Whatcom County will also apply for state and federal reimbursement.
