Displaced by flooding? Here are options for places to stay in Whatcom County

As flooding continues to worsen in Whatcom County, many are facing evacuation orders. As many as 1,500 people could be displaced, Amy Cloud at the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management told The Bellingham Herald.

Emergency shelters have opened across the county to help those displaced by the flooding. The following is a list of where to go for help:

  • North County Christ the King Church, 1816 18th St. in Lynden
  • Sonlight Church, 8800 Bender Rd. in Lynden
  • The United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington St. in Ferndale
  • Lighthouse Mission Ministries, 1312 F St. in Bellingham

If you or someone you know needs emergency shelter, you can also fill out a form on the county’s website to be connected with resources.

For another free housing option, Washington 211 is partnering with Airbnb to provide temporary emergency housing for people displaced by flooding. To see if you qualify, call 211.

In addition to emergency shelters, some hotels are offering lower rates for people displaced by the flooding. Contact them directly to book and get more information.

  • Four Points by Sheraton, 714 Lakeway Dr. in Bellingham. $99 a night. Call 360-746-9097.
  • Hotel Leo, 1224 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham. $110 a night. Call 360-746-9097
  • Holiday Inn Express, 4160 Meridian St. in Bellingham. $114 a night. Call 360-671-4800.
  • Best Western Plus Bellingham, 3985 Bennett Dr. in Bellingham. $99 a night. Call 360-676-7600.
  • Holiday Inn & Suites, 4260 Mitchell Way in Bellingham. $110 a night. Call 360-746-6844.
  • Lavissh Inn & Suites, 805 Lakeway Dr. in Bellingham. Rates depend on availability. Call Alina at 360-815-2800 or contact the hotel at 360-671-9600
  • Cobblestone Hotel & Suites, 8155 Guide Meridian Rd. in Lynden. $107 a night and no pet fees for up to two dogs. Call 360-594-3495.

Resources are also available for pets and livestock in need of places to stay.

  • Spay Neuter Northwest can temporarily house cats, small dogs and small mammals. They can also connect those in need of housing for large dogs and other animals to resources. Call 360-812-5439 or email spayneuternw@gmail.com.
  • The Northwest Washington Fair and Event Center is offering emergency shelter for horses at 1775 Front St. in Lynden. Call 360-354-4111.
  • Whatcom Feline Alliance is connecting cat owners with short-term fosters. Contact 360-223-5117. To volunteer to foster pets, send your address, phone number, dates available and a photo of your holding space to whatcomfelinealliance@gmail.com.
  • Washington State University Whatcom Extension is coordinating shelter for livestock. Call or email 360-778-5800 or email whatcom.4H@wsu.edu for more information. Anyone willing to house livestock can contact them and provide information on location, type of livestock and the approximate number they can take.
