One dead after late-night vehicle crash into Bellingham home
One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a house in Bellingham on Friday night.
The collision occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Nov. 21 in the 2500 block of Elm Street.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and they did not survive injuries suffered in the collision, according to Bellingham Police Department Lt. Claudia Murphy.
Responding fire crews entered the house and located the driver of the vehicle who was trapped inside, according to Bellingham Fire Captain Dustin Michaelis. Crews quickly accessed the vehicle and determined the driver was dead, Michaelis told The Bellingham Herald.
No other injuries were reported. However, the house sustained significant damage in the collision, Murphy said. First responders also found a gas leak inside the home, according to Michaelis. Authorities evacuated the residence and contacted Cascade Natural Gas.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
This is the second fatal vehicle collision in Bellingham in the last week. A teenager died on Nov. 16 after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway on Boulevard and came to a rest on the South Bay Trail.
