One person dead following crash, vehicle fire on Boulevard in Bellingham
One person died following a vehicle crash and fire Saturday night in a Bellingham residential area.
Police and fire personnel responded to what was first reported as a vehicle crash around 9 p.m. Nov. 16 in the 400 block of Boulevard in Bellingham. When they arrived, responders discovered the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames, according to Lt. Claudia Murphy with the Bellingham Police Department.
The Bellingham Fire Department put out the fire, although the driver did not survive, Murphy said.
The vehicle left the roadway and came to a rest on the South Bay Trail, according to Murphy. Boulevard was closed to traffic for several hours while authorities cleared the scene.
BPD continues to investigate the crash.
The Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office announced the identity of the deceased individual Tuesday afternoon. The deceased is a 17-year-old male, and the death has been declared accidental. Family members of the deceased have requested his name not be immediately published, and The Herald is honoring their request.
