Here are season closure dates for businesses at downtown Portal Container Village

Bellingham’s Portal Container Village — a popular go-to spot for the summer featuring Kulshan Brewing beer garden, a bike pump track, local food trucks and live music — will be closing soon for the winter season.

The seasonal outdoor restaurant and retail village crafted out of recycled shipping containers opened for the 2025 summer season in May, but its closing schedule is a bit more complicated.

Each business located in the village makes its own operating hours, as well as its own closing date for the season, according to Mike Hogan, public affairs administrator for the Port of Bellingham.

“Hours of operation and closing dates vary greatly business to business, so we always make the recommendation to the public to check with each business directly before confirming their plans to visit,” Sarah Huckaby, property manager for the Port of Bellingham told The Herald.

“We anticipate all Portal Container Village businesses to close for the season by Sunday, Nov. 2. Customers can expect to see a reduction in hours of service at certain businesses as early as Sept. 2,” Huckaby said.

Here are the closing dates you need to know before going down to the waterfront village:

  • Kulshan Brewing’s Trackside beer garden “has not yet finalized their plans, but their hours typically change starting in October. Historically they have been open Thursday-Sunday in October, but these hours are weather dependent,” according to Hogan. According to Kulshan’s website, Trackside is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
  • Sun-E-Land Bikes, a bike and rental shop, has reduced hours to noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, but is planned to close in mid-October. “Sun-E-Land typically doesn’t open when it is raining and riding conditions aren’t favorable,” Hogan said. Sun-E-Land reduced operating hours after Labor Day and is now open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
  • Portal Putt, an outdoor mini golf course, “will be open until the end of September and potentially into October, depending on the extended weather forecast,” Hogan said. According to its Facebook page, Portal Putt’s new operating hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Selkie Scoop, an ice cream shop, will most likely close at the end of September, according to Hogan. Its September operating hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Friday, and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Zeek’s Pizza, a pizza restaurant with other Bellingham locations, will close for the season Oct. 31. Until then, the restaurant is operating with reduced hours. From Sept. 8-28, the restaurant will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Starting Sept. 29, the restaurant will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to Hogan.
