Beloved Ferndale bakery owner to retire after 25 years, looking to sell business
One of Ferndale’s sweetest and most popular businesses is now for sale as its owner and namesake plans to retire.
Barb O’Brine, owner of Barb’s Pies and Pastries, is planning to retire and is looking for someone to take over the business, according to a Aug. 25 Facebook post from the business.
“The time has come for Barb to retire. It has been a pleasure to serve my community. We have been blessed to be part of your family’s special events. Support our schools. We appreciate all the wonderful relationships we created with our customers. So many of you are truly family! If you are interested in owning a Bakery and have business experience send me a private message,” the post said.
The made-from-scratch, hometown bakery in downtown Ferndale first opened in 1999 and has grown a reputation for its pies, lemon bars, danishes, croissants, sourdough bread, cookies and scones.
The Bellingham Herald reached out to the business for comment and was awaiting a response. No announcement has been made about whether the same business will continue under new ownership or if Barb’s Pies and Pastries will be rebranded when a new owner purchases the bakery.
Barb’s Pies and Pastries is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 2054 Main St. in Ferndale.
