A new store is opening this week in Bellingham’s historic Fairhaven neighborhood, taking over the previous location of Pizza’zza restaurant.
Outdoor Research, a Seattle-based outdoor retail store and brand, is opening its newest location Thursday, July 10, according to a news release from the company.
The 2,736-square-foot retail store will be filled with Outdoor Research’s mountain bike apparel, outerwear, sportswear and more.
“The modern, updated store also builds on the brand’s mission to help solve adventurers’ problems by offering the active Bellingham community a new space to find reliable, high-performance gear, while serving as a hub for the local outdoor community,” the news release states.
“Bellingham is a launch pad for so many outdoor adventures — whether you’re riding Galbraith, skiing Baker, or exploring the North Cascades,” Bellingham Store Manager Ben Harvey said. “We’re beyond excited to open our doors in a community that lives and breathes the outdoors, and we can’t wait to welcome both locals and visitors into our space.”
The new store is opening just in time for Bellingham’s Northwest Tune-Up Festival, a mountain bike, live music and beer festival at Bellingham’s waterfront.
The grand opening event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. July 10 and will feature free food trucks and drinks, retail discounts, raffles and a live DJ.
“Athletes from Outdoor Research’s growing team of ambassadors will also be at the event including professional mountain biker Bas van Steenbergen as well as pro freeskiers and ripping mountain bikers Mark Abma and Micah Evangelista. The celebration continues on Friday, July 11, with a group mountain bike ride with Bas, Mark, and Micah, open to all festival-goers and the public, departing at 10:00 am from the main South Galbraith Mountain parking lot located just off Samish Way,” the news release states.
“We’re stoked to open just in time for Northwest Tune-Up, a Bellingham tradition,” Ben said. “It’s the perfect way to kick things off — connecting with the mountain bike community, soaking up the festival energy, and showcasing pieces from our Freewheel MTB collection, built for high-output trail riding, technical terrain, and long, fun days in the saddle.”
Outdoor Research will be open regularly from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 1501 12th St. in Bellingham.
