Whatcom County’s median home price decreases; Bellingham prices remain steady

Median home sale prices in Whatcom County decreased in March, while Bellingham’s prices increased slightly.

Whatcom County’s median home sale price reached an extreme high of $675,000 in July 2024, the highest price from 2012 to 2025, according to Redfin Metro Area Data. Redfin, a residential real estate brokerage that uses home listings to generate metro area data.

Since July 2024, prices have fluctuated but have remained below the $675,000 high mark.

Whatcom County’s median sale price across all of March was $595,000, a 0.8% decrease compared with February and a 3.6% decrease compared with March 2024, according to Jason Lee, a local broker with Windermere Real Estate in Bellingham.

“The first seasonal pop in local inventory coincided exactly with the first official days of spring this year. Bellingham inventory is up 94% compared to last March, while county inventory is up about 59%,” Lee told The Herald.

Bellingham

The median price of homes sold in March in Bellingham was $649,581, a 3.9% increase compared to March 2024, according to data from Rocket Homes.

In March, Bellingham’s median asking price was $640,000, according to Lee. That’s a 0.2% increase compared with February, but a 9.9% decrease compared with March of last year, Lee said.

Washington

Washington’s median home sale price in February was $629,600, an increase of 1.8% compared to March 2024, according to Redfin data.

In March, Washington was the fifth-most expensive state in which to purchase a home, according to March Redfin data, following California with a median sale price of $785,000, Hawaii at $779,000, Massachusetts at $622,000 and Colorado at $607,000.
