Ferndale’s chief of police is leaving the department to take the same position in Burlington
Ferndale Chief of Police Kevin Turner is leaving the department Nov. 28 after eight years of service.
Turner announced his decision to leave in an Oct. 28 message to city staff. He will spend the next chapter of his career as chief of police in Burlington, Wash., according to Ferndale Communication Director Megan Juenemann.
“This was not an easy decision as this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Turner told city staff. “Thank you for your support of me and the PD, and the friendships we’ve built along the way. I feel immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished over the last several years, and I am honored to have served this community with the Ferndale Police Department.”
Retired Lt. Matt Huffman will serve as interim police chief during the search for a permanent replacement. Huffman retired from Ferndale Police in 2023, and will take over the chief’s responsibilities Dec. 9.
“Huffman was an exceptional leader in the department, contributing significantly to the success and growth of the organization,” Juenemann said in a press release. “Huffman consistently demonstrated his commitment, professionalism and expertise, making a lasting impact on the department, his colleagues and the community.”
