Bus rides within Whatcom County are free from Aug. 8-17 from the Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA). Free Fare Days allow people to experience the ease and efficiency of WTA buses at no charge, according to the WTA website.

Free Fare Days align with the Northwest Washington Fair. During the fair, Route 26 will provide a regular route to the fairgrounds in Lynden, allowing attendees to travel without the stress of transportation requirements.

Buses will run weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 8:48 p.m. On Saturdays, buses run from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and from 8:05 a.m. to 6:05 p.m. on Sundays.

Paratransit rides, a curb-to-curb transportation service for riders unable to use the fixed route bus system, are included in Free Fare Days. People 18 and under always ride for free on WTA.

Route 80X to Mount Vernon is not a part of this program, and fares will remain the same for that route.
