Hovander Homestead Park is scheduled to close for three days next week during construction at the park’s noted Demonstration Garden.

Parks staff plan to install a new irrigation system around the Hovander House at the park. Work includes excavation, installation of irrigation lines and restoration of planted areas, according to a statement from the Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department.

The work is expected to start on Monday and finish on Wednesday.

Closed areas of the park include the area adjacent to the Hovander House, the parking lot and the barn where the crew will be working.

The new irrigation system is the first step in the landscaping plan for the Hovander Demonstration Gardens, which are managed by the Whatcom County Master Gardener Foundation.
