Rental price update: These Bellingham neighborhoods still cost $400 more than others

Rental homes and apartment listing prices in Bellingham decreased last month, although certain parts of Whatcom County and even different Bellingham neighborhoods have extremely different prices, according to rental housing data companies.

Zumper reported that all bedroom rental property types and sizes in Bellingham had a median rental price of $1,900 in January, a 16% decrease compared to last month and a 12% increase compared to last year.

Zumper reported January’s median price of $1,550 for a one-bedroom Bellingham apartment had a slight increase from December’s median price of $1,525.

In January, Bellingham’s median price for a studio apartment was $1,300, the same price as December’s median.

Two-bedroom apartments in January had a median price of $1,850, a slight increase compared to December’s median price of $1,819.

Bellingham rent prices by ZIP code

If you are looking for an affordable rental in Bellingham, looking in the 98225 ZIP code could save you almost $400 a month compared with 98226’s median rental prices.

Rental prices fluctuated throughout Bellingham in both the 98225 and 98226 zip codes. RentHub reports median rental listing prices for houses, multiplexes and apartments of all sizes. Prices in December:

Decreased in the 98225 ZIP code from December’s average of $1,740 to $1,525 in January.

Decreased in the 98226 ZIP code from December’s average of $1,923 to $1,910 in January.

Whatcom County rent prices

Rent prices also vary by ZIP code across Whatcom County. In December, the 98248 ZIP code had the highest median rent prices in Whatcom County at $2,285, compared to the lowest prices in the 98225 ZIP code of $1,740.

Renthub also compared median rent prices by year. Compared with December 2022, December 2023’s median rent prices:

Decreased by 6.2% in the 98226 ZIP code.

Increased by 16.39% the 98225 ZIP code.

Increased by 28.57% in the 98229 ZIP code.

Increased by 25% in the 98230 ZIP code.

Increased by 25.21% in the 98248 ZIP code.
