Two new restaurants opened in October, bringing new coffee stops to Whatcom County. Here are the newest food spots you’ll want to try:

Giddy Up! Espresso

A new drive-thru coffee stand, Giddy Up! Espresso, opened a new location on Thursday, Oct. 12. The menu includes assorted blended espresso drinks, smoothies, energy drinks, lattes, tea, hot chocolate, muffins, cookies, oatmeal and protein bars. The chain drive-thru stand open from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and is at 1321 W Bakerview Road, where Big Foot Java used to be.

Tinto Coffee

Tinto Coffee, an espresso stand opened on Friday, Oct. 6, in the Bellis Fair mall where Starbucks was previously located in the food court.

The Latin America coffee stand serves a wide variety of espresso drinks such as an abuelita mocha and horchata cold brew, and non-espresso drinks like coconut limeades, masala chai lattes and housemade horchata. The coffee stand also serves Latin American pastries such as Columbian cheese bread, tres leches cake and carrot cake.

Bellis Fair mall and Tinto Coffee are open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at 1 Bellis Fair Parkway in Bellingham.

During the month of October, two Bellingham restaurants also announced they were closing:

Little Kitchen Witch

The Little Kitchen Witch, “a small cozy ‘hole in the wall’” known for its falafel and hummus announced it would be closing its doors. The announcement was made in a Facebook post on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The post said the restaurant’s current location at 4370 Meridian St. in Bellingham would be closing “in the coming weeks,” and did not give a specific closing day. The restaurant first opened in February 2022.

On Oct. 17, the restaurant posted it was “on a break,” without announcing whether the restaurant will open a new location.

COF&

COF&, a Columbian coffee chain also known as Cofywa, closed its Sunnyland location in Bellingham and announced plans for something bigger.

COF&’s downtown coffee shop will remain open, but be expanded and reimagined into a new restaurant space, planned to be completed in 2024.

The coffee shop is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, and is at 1209 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham.
