Whatcom County’s unemployment rate drops in April, ranks 10th lowest in the state

Whatcom County and the state of Washington’s April unemployment data has been released showing “a labor market that is very resilient,” according to a news release from the Employment Security Department.

The April 2023 monthly employment report showed a decrease in Washington’s unemployment numbers, dropping from a 4.5% unemployment rate in March to 4.3% in April.

In April, 57,615 people in the state received unemployment insurance benefits, 6,440 less than March 2023, according to the news release.

In April 2022, Washington’s unemployment rate was 3.7%, 0.6% less than this year.

Whatcom County unemployment rate

Whatcom County had a 3.9% unemployment rate in April, tied for the 10th lowest rate in the state and decreasing from last month and April of last year.

In March, Whatcom County’s unemployment rate was 4.8%, with 5,622 residents receiving unemployment benefits compared with 4,493 in April.

In April 2022, Whatcom County’s unemployment rate was 4.5%, with 5,103 residents receiving unemployment benefits compared with 4,493 last month.
