Here’s a roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

El Sueñito Brewing Company opens

El Sueñito Brewing Company had its grand opening Friday, Feb. 17, in Bellingham’s Sunnyland neighborhood. The small gay and Mexican-owned brewery serves housemade beer, as well as Frelard Tamales. The brewery is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and is at 1926 Humboldt St.

Bellingham Makerspace seeking assistance

Bellingham Makerspace, a non-profit community space in the Bellis Fair Mall, is asking for help during an “existential crisis,” according to its February newsletter.

“Unless we can find a way to increase our income -- through grants, sponsorships, gifts, additional memberships, or something else — the Makerspace cannot continue to exist in its current space and current form,” the newsletter states.

The non-profit hosted a zoom meeting at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, to discuss possible plans and solutions.

Bellingham Makerspace is open from 1-7 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, then 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It is located inside Bellis Fair Mall, 1 Bellis Fair Parkway in Bellingham.

Boundary Bay Mardi Gras event

Boundary Bay Brewing Co. is hosting a Mardi Gras event from on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Visitors can enjoy a free show from 6-8 p.m. by the Bayou Opossums, a five-piece ensemble playing music originating from New Orleans. The restaurant will also be serving a special Mardi Gras menu featuring gumbo and muffaletta. Boundary Bay Brewing Co. is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is located at 107 Railroad Ave. in Bellingham.

“E.T.” live score movie event

The Western Symphony Orchestra will be performing “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” in concert at 7 p.m., Feb. 25. The beloved Steven Spielberg film will be projected onto a screen as the Western Washington University’s orchestra plays the score live in sync with the film.

Tickets are available online and cost $25-$50 each. The concert will be performed at the Performing Arts Center Mainstage Theatre, 516 High St. in Bellingham.
