Looking for an affordable apartment? These Bellingham areas have the lowest rental prices

As rent prices have seen dramatic changes in the last year, the cost of rent can vary mile by mile. Finding a more affordable apartment in Bellingham may just be a neighborhood away.

Bellingham’s 98225 ZIP code area rental costs have seen a recent steep increase in January 2023, jumping to an average $1,910 in January, compared to $1,495 in December, according to RentHub, a rental housing data company. RentHub examines prices from current listings on the market of houses, multiplexes and apartments of all bed/bath sizes.

In the 98226 zip code, prices increased $50 from December to an average rent of $2,100 in January.

Current listings for Bellingham rental units show prices have changed throughout the past month. The average rent for a studio apartment decreased by 3%, while the average for a one-bedroom apartment increased by 15%. The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment decreased by 3%, according to current rental listings in a report from Zumper.com, a website with rental postings and information.

The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Bellingham was $1,375 in January, a $5 decrease from December’s average cost of $1,380, according to Zumper.

The current average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Bellingham as of Feb. 11 is $1,750 a month, a 3% increase from February 2022, according to Zumper.

The most affordable rental prices in Bellingham

Compared to January 2022, rental prices have increased in the 98225 ZIP code by 4.1% in January 2023, to reach an average median rent of $1,495.

The 98226 zip code rental prices also increased between 2022 and 2023, reaching an average rental price of $2,050 in January 2023, a 10.8% increase.

Rental prices in the 98229 ZIP code saw a decrease compared to January 2022, dropping 7.9% by January 2023 with a median rent price of $1,750.

If you are looking for an affordable rental in Bellingham, looking in the 98229 zip code could save you $300 a month compared to 98226’s average rental prices.
