This Bellingham parking lot is being converted into apartments
A parking lot in Bellingham is being converted into a 4-story, mixed-use apartment building next to Cascade Pizza in the Fountain District.
About two-thirds of the parking lot at 2425 Meridian St. will be developed. Thirty-six market-rate residential units are planned for the three upper levels of the structure and three commercial units are planned for the ground floor.
The development is expected to have a mix of 2-bedroom, 1-bedroom and studio units. Parking is expected to be shared between commercial and residential uses, according to Bellingham-based AVT Consulting, the permit consultant company for the project.
“Perhaps commercial will have use of the parking during the day and at night some of it will convert to residential use,” AVT’s Ali Taysi told The Bellingham Herald in a telephone interview.
A pedestrian alley is also planned as part of the project. It is planned for the south side of the parking lot, where another commercial building has storefronts facing north toward the parking lot where the apartments will be built.
This project is part of the ongoing development in Bellingham’s Fountain District Urban Village.
A design review process will take place through the first half of 2023 so the current design is expected to change slightly. There will be multiple opportunities for public participation and community input. A design review board meeting for this project is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan 17.
Construction is expected to begin in 2024 with occupancy expected in 2025.
