Luxury waterfront condos in Bellingham will be here sooner than you think

Within a year, people will begin moving into luxury waterfront condominiums in Bellingham’s downtown core. This is one of many ongoing development projects underway in Bellingham’s waterfront district.

The Waterfront Living condos are under construction right now along Granary Avenue near the historic Granary Building and Waypoint Park.

Three, five-story buildings will hold 103 residential units varying in size from one to three bedrooms. The development will also include 33,000 square feet of commercial space for various types of businesses on the first floor.

“I think it’s going to add an interesting aspect to Bellingham,” blu.ink Real Estate Waterfront Living sales and leasing broker Chris Erdmann said in an interview with The Bellingham Herald. “It’s going to get more people downtown so I think businesses and community will definitely benefit from that.”

An underground parking garage with about 200 stalls will be built beneath the development for residents and the public. There will also be secure bike parking.

The residential units for sale start at around $550,000. The most expensive penthouse suites will cost more than $3 million. Up to 30% of the units may be rented by owners.

The units have open floor plans and modern layouts with heating and air conditioning. Many feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands. The buildings are also being constructed with steel and concrete to minimize noise.

Energy-efficient windows will help with building insulation and common spaces will be powered by solar energy. The buildings are expected to be LEED-certified, meaning they meet a minimum standard for efficiency and green cost savings.

“I think the more that Bellingham builds up instead of sprawling out, that really helps with the environment and traffic flow,” Erdmann said.

Pedestrian and biking trails will connect the buildings to interurban trails throughout town to facilitate recreation and alternate forms of transportation.

The Waterfront Living condos will also have at least one gym on the first floor.

“A lot of people have expressed excitement about being able to live and work in the same place, walk to their favorite shops, utilize interurban trails and even more easily get out on their kayaks,” Erdmann told The Herald.

The first two buildings are expected to be completed by the end of 2023. Completion of the third building is expected to follow shortly after. People will begin moving in upon completion of the first two buildings.
