Bellingham travelers can soon fly direct to new destination on Southwest

Bellingham travelers can soon take a nonstop flight directly to Denver, Southwest Airlines announced Thursday, Oct. 27.

It’s the newest destination offered directly from Bellingham International Airport and will be offered Saturdays on a seasonal basis starting in April 2023.

“There is strong demand for eastbound flights from travelers who like to avoid the traffic and crowds at major airports in Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.” said Port Commission President Bobby Briscoe in a news release.

It was a popular flight out of Bellingham when it was operated by Frontier Airlines as seasonal service from 2012-2015, according to Bellingham Herald files. During those flights, the seats were more than 80 percent full, on average.

The new Southwest flight, on a 175-passenger Boeing 737, to Denver International Airport will depart at 11:40 a.m. and arrive at 3:15 p.m.

The return flight leaves Denver at 10:35 p.m. and arrives in Bellingham at 12:25 a.m.

“As passenger traffic returns to pre-pandemic levels, the Port will continue working with Southwest to increase service to Denver and connect passengers to new destinations,” said Port Executive Director Rob Fix in the release.

Including this new flight to Denver, Bellingham International Airport offers direct service to eight different destinations including Seattle/Tacoma, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, Palm Springs, Phoenix and San Diego.
