Time to say goodbye for the season to Bellingham’s waterfront The Portal Container Village
It may be hard to believe, but we are already well into fall and businesses at The Portal Container Village on the Bellingham waterfront are shutting down — but just for the season.
Kulshan Brewing’s Trackside beer garden will close Sunday, Oct. 9, and will reopen in the spring.
Kulshan is closing the beer garden because it has a seasonal operating permit with the city of Bellingham, meaning it can only remain open for a certain number of months. According to Emily Mallos, Kulshan’s marketing manager, the decision to operate with a seasonal permit was made by Kulshan itself. She said the business wanted a summer beer garden because that was the best time and place to have a cold beer.
Last year, the beer garden opened in June and stayed open through the winter, avoiding the cold weather by setting up a large tent. This year, it opened in early spring, meaning it has to close earlier in the year, according to Mallos.
The Port posted this new schedule for the other businesses on its Facebook page:
▪ Rain or Shine Riviera Club restaurant will be open noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday starting Oct. 12.
▪ Sun-E-Land Bikes will operate on weekends through the end of October.
▪ The Container Shop will be open through the end of October hosting local businesses: Marshal Arts Upcycle Oct. 3-9, Spike of All Trades Oct. 10-16, MaryGold Tales Oct. 17-23 and Free To Be Designs Oct. 24-30.
▪ Our Kitchen will close Sunday for the season. Until then, it’s open 4-8 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
▪ The Selkie Scoop ice cream vendor closed Sept. 29 for the season.
▪ There will be rotating food trucks until the end of October.
