A job fair to connect refugees and immigrants residing in Whatcom County to local employers will be hosted Friday, Aug. 19, by Evergreen Goodwill’s Whatcom County Job Training and Education Center.

“All are welcome to attend this particular job and resource fair, but we have established a keen focus on connecting immigrant and refugee populations residing in Whatcom County to local employers who are looking to fill open positions, as well as services available in the community,” Ryan Hodges, Evergreen Goodwill’s communications specialist wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.

Whatcom County has welcomed refugees into the region over the past several months, and now many are looking for jobs and social services, according to the press release. The job fair aims to connect local immigrants and refugees to as many local opportunities as possible.

The job fair extends farther than Goodwill, as a list of local stores and organizations are offering job positions. Organizations such as the Northwest Justice Project, Washington State University, Bellingham Food Bank, Walmart, Ferndale Community Services and Whatcom YMCA will be at the job fair, along with others including the Department of Licensing and the Salvation Army.

The event will also have case managers and other organizations available to help participants find services that are available to them in the Whatcom community.

The job fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1115 E. Sunset Drive.
