This Bellingham landmark bar is closing in August
Bellingham’s landmark Irish bar has lost its lease at 1319 Commercial St. and will close its doors at the end of August, according to a Facebook post by owner Molly McGarry Saturday, July 16.
Uisce, pronounced “ish’ kah,” is the site of many a pint poured and a hub of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
It may not be gone for good.
“Now is the end of this chapter. In no way is this the end of Uisce,” McGarry wrote.
“Seventeen years ago we opened the doors to our flagship location here on Commercial Street. What has happened since within these four walls is hard to even put into words. So much emotion, so many experiences, almost two decades of life, and so much more. However our landlord has found new tenants and we have found ourselves without a home.
“Uisce had a great run for 17 years in our building and we have tremendous respect for the business Molly built. When she told us the space no longer met her needs and she wanted to move out, we accommodated her request and found new tenants to take over. We wish Molly luck and look forward to raising a glass at her next location,” building owner Ken Mann said in an email to The Bellingham Herald.
“This news brings NEW BEGINNINGS,” McGarry wrote. “We will stay in Bellingham, in the community that we love and have worked in for so long. We know that wherever we land — hopefully VERY SOON — we will bring the strongest version of Uisce yet. Over almost two decades we have earned the respect of fellow colleagues and have embraced the service industry in Bellingham, whom we love and are very connected to.”
The last day at the location is Aug. 31, McGarry wrote. “We will start breaking the bar down around the middle of August. Come see us, Bellingham! Come see my guys and show them some love. Hug us and help us say goodbye to this space. Thank you to all who have supported us over the years. We will keep you posted as things develop.”
