Broken pipes are a big headache for some Whatcom businesses. Here’s a list of closures

As if Whatcom businesses don’t have enough to deal with during the pandemic surge, some are getting bad news about water pipes.

During the earlier arctic storm, many businesses had frozen pipe issues that were quickly resolved. Others have discovered more extensive problems, leading to extended closures.

Here’s an update on those that have extended closures because of broken pipes and other weather-related issues. This list will be updated if more announcements are made:

Black Drop Coffeehouse in downtown Bellingham is dealing with drainage issues that make take some time because plumbers are so busy right now, according to a Facebook postt. No timeline was announced on reopening, but the business plans to update customers on social media.

Cocoanut Grove reported on Facebook that a main water pipe burst on Monday, Dec. 27, resulting in a cascading waterfall that flooded half the building. The restaurant is working with insurance to get everything fixed, but it does not have a reopening date.

Allied Arts of Whatcom County has also been dealing with a broken water pipe that damaged the storeroom. The gallery/thrift store is also working with insurance and there is no timetable on its reopening, according to a Facebook post.

There’s also a separate list of businesses that have temporarily closed because of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
