Whatcom County continues to see coronavirus spread with 4 new cases reported Sunday
Four more residents tested positive for COVID-19, the Whatcom County Health Department reported Sunday, May 10, but no new deaths related to the coronavirus were reported.
The county now has 333 confirmed cases and 32 deaths, according to health department statistics. There have been five deaths this past week of May 3, with four on Thursday and one on Friday.
The county health department reported 56 more negative test results Sunday, bringing the total to 3,142.
St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham reported to The Herald Sunday that it currently has one confirmed COVID-19 patient. On Friday the hospital reported that it had no confirmed COVID-19 patients, the first day without a COVID-19 at the hospital since its first positive inpatient was confirmed on March 17.
Lummi Public Health reported the 41st positive COVID-19 case within the Lummi Community in a Facebook post Saturday, May 9.
Countywide, the most affected group is adults 30-39, who represent 13.9% of cases. The next-most affected group is adults 20-29 who account for 13.6% of confirmed cases.
Women represent 58% of confirmed cases in the county. However, men represent 56% of total deaths.
Adults 60 years and older represent 43% of the confirmed cases. All deaths have been from adults aged 60-99.
More than 4 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed worldwide, with more than 281,000 deaths as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States has more than 1.2 million confirmed cases — the most reported cases of any nation — with at least 77,034 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Overall, the Washington State Department of Health reported 16,674 cases and 921 deaths Saturday evening.
