Coronavirus pandemic leads to more delays for Alaska ferry’s Bellingham route
Bellingham residents won’t be seeing the Alaska ferry until at least this summer as the new coronavirus continues to impact its schedule.
The Alaska Marine Highway System announced in a news release that the COVID-19 pandemic has led the agency to create a reduced operating plan for spring and early summer, and that appears to include delaying the restart of the Bellingham route. A check of the latest ferry schedule shows the next trip to Bellingham would be on Saturday, June 27, by the vessel Kennicott.
If the current schedule holds, Bellingham would then see trips by the Kennicott and the Columbia in July and August. The arrivals would be on Fridays and every other Saturday.
Mechanical issues put a halt to the Matanuska sailings to Bellingham in late January, and a ferry hasn’t docked at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal since that time.
All passengers are being notified and rebooked or refunded as necessary, according to the news release.
