Alaska Airlines makes changes for coronavirus, including blocking off middle seats
Alaska Airlines continues to make adjustments to ease customer concerns during the coronavirus pandemic.
In an email to customers, the airline listed a few new things it is doing for customers after severely cutting back on flights in recent weeks. Currently at the Bellingham International Airport, Alaska has just one flight a day to Seattle, down from five flights a day a few weeks ago.
▪ More space. The airline is blocking off all middle seats on large aircraft and aisle seats for smaller planes through May 31, 2020. Families who want to sit together can make special arrangements during the reservation.
▪ Extending travel credits. Alaska announced any credits deposited before March 1 will be extended for six months. Customers don’t need to travel before the six-month extension date, just book a ticket by then.
▪ For those who canceled or will cancel their flights due to COVID-19 impacts in March, April or May, the credits will be extended through July 5, 2021 for travel through May 31, 2022.
▪ The airline’s Peace of Mind waiver has been extended. For new ticket purchases made before May 31, 2020, you can change or cancel without a fee. Non-refundable tickets will receive credit towards a future flight.
