Downtown Bellingham coffee shop closes after over 20 years of business
Downtown Bellingham has lost another coffee shop, on the heels of Welcome Road Winery and Coffee House shutting down just last week.
Avellino Coffeehouse closed permanently with no announcement except a small sign posted on the front door on July 11.
“Sadly, we must share that our Coffeehouse will be closing its doors at the end of the day July 11, 2026,” the sign states. “We are deeply grateful for the support, friendships, and memories you’ve shared with us over the years. Thank you for making our Coffeehouse such a special place.”
The coffee house first opened in 1995, and served Bellingham for over 20 years. The closing comes just over a year after Avellino’s sister company, Avellino Gluten Free Bakery, closed its doors.
Following the bakery’s closure, the business clarified that the coffeehouse wouldn’t be closing. “Please note this closure does NOT affect Avellino Coffeehouse, and we have no plans to stop serving the community any time soon,” owners stated in a June 8, 2025 social media post.
The situation changed, however, and the popular coffee house is closed permanently. The Herald reached out for a comment from Avellino Coffeehouse but has yet to receive a response.
“We will miss seeing each of you and truly appreciate your patronage. Thank you for being a part of our journey,” the closing announcement sign posted at the coffee house states.
Avellino Coffeehouse was open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at 1329 Railroad Ave. in downtown Bellingham.
