Downtown Bellingham is losing a popular pizza-and-beer spot, closing for good Monday
A downtown Bellingham restaurant is closing its doors permanently with only a few days of warning.
Pizza restaurant and bar Bella Ciao Pizza Tavern was opened in March 2024 by business partners Jabriel Donohue and Daniel Pagard, who also own Nacho Problems and Admiralty Lounge in Bellingham, and two restaurants in Seattle.
The restaurant’s closure was announced in a social media post Thursday, March 27, saying the business will close Monday, March 31.
“Unfortunately we’re no longer able to sustain operations,” the post signed by The Bella Ciao Team states. “We could, and likely will at a later date, talk about some of the challenges we faced both internally and externally. Apart from the standard aspects of restaurant operations, which are significant, 2024 was the most challenging year for independent operators that we’ve seen in our entire careers, and we hope for the sake of Bellingham’s restaurant community that many of the shared challenges will be taken seriously by those who want to keep a vibrant independent community in Bellingham.”
“That said, we’ve got one last good weekend in us and we hope you’ll come down and get some squares, help us empty our kegs, and see how many Malort faces we can put together,” the post states.
Bella Ciao is regularly open from 5 p.m. to midnight daily, but for 21 and older only from 9 p.m. until close, and is at 427 Railroad Ave.
