Popular Swedish retail store coming to Bellingham, opening downtown next year
Fjallraven, a Swedish outdoor apparel and equipment company, is opening a store in downtown Bellingham, and an opening month has just been announced.
The international store first filed a permit with the city of Bellingham on Oct. 28, for a retail space at 128 W Holly St. in downtown, according to previous reporting by The Bellingham Herald. The estimated cost for the city-owned store space is $65,000 according to the permit.
The new retail space is set to open in February 2024, only two months away, according to a newsletter from The City of Bellingham’s website. The store will be in the same building as the Commercial street parking garage downtown.
“They will be a great addition to this area of downtown, which is the core of the emerging retail district envisioned in the City’s downtown retail strategy,” the newsletter states.
Fjallraven is known for its bright-colored backpacks and outdoor clothing and equipment, as well as the company’s commitment to sustainability.
“As an outdoor company, we’re acutely aware of this impact and we do our utmost to keep our environmental footprint as small as possible... But we can always do better. Sustainability is a special kind of trekking. There are many checkpoints, but no finish line,” Fjallraven’s website states.
“In parallel the products we develop are built to last for decades of use, to then be passed on to the next generation or be sold on the second hand market. That way, fewer products will be produced, less energy will be consumed and less products will end up as waste,” the company’s website states.
No official opening date has been announced as of Dec. 22.
