Have you thought about opening a restaurant, shop or small business in Whatcom County?

A recent report from SmartAsset, a financial information website evaluated each county and state in the United States to find which are the best and worst for small business owners.

Whatcom County ranked third-best Washington county for small business owners, following San Juan in first, and Jefferson in second.

The report evaluated each county by five factors such as the proportion of people with small business income, reported business income, the amount of tax a resident pays on income, the five-year change of small business tax returns and the five-year change of small business income.

Here’s how Whatcom County measured up:

197th best county in the United States for small businesses.

2nd highest small business income in Washington.

9th most small business tax returns in Washington.
