This Bellingham waterfront business expands again, to Skagit County

Bellingham Cold Storage, a storage and food processing company in Bellingham is expanding its reach into Skagit County by opening new cold and dry storage facilities in Burlington.

Bellingham Cold Storage first opened its Squalicum Waterfront facility in 1946 and will now have expanded to 27 facilities throughout Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties with about 150 total employees.

Bellingham Cold Storage is the “largest and most diversified portside cold storage and food processing company on the West Coast,” according to a news release from José M Roqués, the company’s senior vice president of sales and marketing.

The two new storage units will open in Burlington on June 1.

The cold storage facility will include a 69,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse and a 7,000-square-foot loading dock and is at 301 S. Walnut St. in Burlington. The dry storage facility will include 65,000 square feet of dry storage and is at 1600 Port Drive in Burlington.

“Experienced and dedicated BCS team members located in each of our 5 separate locations will remain fully committed to delivering the highest quality standards, and customer satisfaction possible in today’s very challenging supply chain world. We look forward to continuing to serve our current and future customers with excellence and integrity,” Doug Thomas, president and CEO of Bellingham Cold Storage, wrote in the news release.

The company manages over 600 million pounds of products each year such as seafood, berries and other packaged foods, according to its website.
