New restaurant planned for Homeskillet space in Bellingham, another reopens for ski season

A new restaurant will move into the Homeskillet building in the Sunnyland neighborhood, according to the business’s Facebook page.

Homeschool NW BBQ will be leasing the building at 521 Kentucky St. in Bellingham and is set to open Thursday, Dec. 1. The new BBQ restaurant will offer classic staples including ribs, brisket and wings. According to the Homeskillet Facebook page, the new location has been approved for serving cocktails, beer and providing live music.

The original restaurant closed earlier this year after celebrating its 10th anniversary with a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood and Whatcom Pride. More information about the opening, menu and additional updates can be found on the Homeskillet Facebook page.

The Heliotrope in Glacier will be reopening this coming week after staffing shortages forced its closure in July of this year.

The restaurant, located at 9990 Mt. Baker Highway, will open on Thursday, Nov. 17, for the winter season. According to its website, hours will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The business is anticipating a large ski season and is looking to expand hours into lunch as staffing allows. More information can be found on the business’s website.

D&Tea, a role-playing game-inspired tea shop, announced its soft opening this week on Reddit.

The shop, located at 2025 James St. in Bellingham, offers loose-leaf tea and accessories, including dice, infusers and tea thermoses. A soft opening of the shop began Nov. 7 with hours from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Eventually, the business will offer a speakeasy with expanded hours and days. The speakeasy would consist of paid dungeon masters, gaming tables and unlimited tea for members, according to the owner in a Reddit comment.

Gruff Brewing of Downtown Bellingham will host a holiday market event with local vendors and warm drinks.

The holiday market will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17. More than 20 local artisans and craftspeople will offer their goods in the beer garden. Gruff will be serving mulled wine during the event. Additional updates and information can be found on the Gruff Brewing Facebook page.
