Here’s what PeaceHealth is building near the Bellingham hospital
PeaceHealth has broken ground for a new women’s health clinic near its Bellingham hospital.
The two-story, 17,000-square-foot building will be at 220 Birchwood Ave., between Cornwall Park and Bug Lake. According to a news release, the building should be ready by the summer of 2023, offering a variety of services including routine and high-risk obstetrics, gynecological procedures, a lactation program as well as imaging and lab work.
Direct abortion services are not performed at any PeaceHealth facility.
“As far as other women’s healthcare services, PeaceHealth relies on the relationship between a patient and her provider to determine what is medically appropriate care,” said Beverly Mayhew, senior director of marketing and communications for the PeaceHealth Northwest network, in an email.
Being close to the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center will mean easy access for the center’s providers, which include three nurse practitioners, six certified nurse midwives and 13 physicians who need a bigger space to provide services.
“We are thrilled that we are finally at the stage of breaking ground for our new OB/GYN clinic.” said Misty Parris, vice president of operations for PeaceHealth Medical Group, in the news release. “Clinicians, caregivers and patients, along with representatives from many other support services, have given their time to help develop what we believe will be a wonderful space for women to receive care.”
The building was designed by PKA Architects, a Portland, Oregon, firm that specializes in healthcare facilities. Cushman Wakefield will manage the project and Bellingham’s Exxel Pacific is the general contractor.
