Here’s the latest on Whatcom restaurant changes and a new food kitchen near Ferndale

Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity around Whatcom County:

With the long daylight hours and the pandemic somewhat manageable, restaurants are expanding hours.

Packers Kitchen & Bar at Semiahmoo Resort announced that it has brought back all-day dining. The new addition is brunch, which is available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. That’s followed by a pizza happy hour from 3-4 p.m. and then dinner into the evening. Along with pizza, seafood, burgers and local specialties are on the menu.

Herb Niemann’s Steak House in Everson announced on Facebook that it is bringing back a lunch menu starting Friday, July 1.

The Heliotrope restaurant in Glacier has reopened for the summer season. According to its website, hours are 1-8 p.m. Thursday through Monday.

Starting Monday, June 13, a new food option will be available at the Lummi Gateway Center at 4920 Rural Ave., near Interstate 5.

According to its Facebook page, Battle’s Kitchen will be serving up New Orleans-style food 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Thursday it will be open for breakfast and lunch, while still working on a Saturday schedule. The kitchen does not have indoor seating and is not a traditional restaurant, but there is outdoor seating available after customers pick up their order.

Items on the menu include Cajun surf and turf, crawfish etouffee and jambalaya.

The Front newspaper at Western Washington University reported that Everyday Music in downtown Bellingham is slated to close sometime in mid-August.

According to the article, the company is only keeping its Portland, Oregon, location open. Earlier this year the company closed its Seattle store.

The record company has a long history in Bellingham. According to The Bellingham Herald archives Cellophane Square was in Bellingham for 30 years before the business was sold to Everyday Music in 2002. It has been on the corner of Magnolia Street and Railroad Avenue for decades.

The one other record store in downtown Bellingham is Black Noise Records, which is near Camber at 1230 Bay St.

After waiting out the chilly weather, Birch Bay Waterslides is slated to reopen on weekends starting June 11.

The plan is to operate on weekends to start, then begin daily operations from June 24 through Sept. 5. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The waterslides are at 4874 Birch Bay Lynden Road.
