A new Bellingham clothing store is getting ready for an October grand opening

Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity around Whatcom County:

A new store in Bakerview Square has announced on social media a grand opening event. Soul Sisters Unique Boutique is planning to celebrate its opening at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. The clothing store plans to have refreshments and a gift drawing.

The Colophon Cafe in Fairhaven is planning to reopen after dealing with some minor flood damage caused by the Friday, Sept. 17, rain/wind storm that swept through the area.

Owner David Killian said in an email that they are aiming for a Thursday, Sept. 30, reopening but still have some work to do to get ready.

Super Mario’s Food announced on social media that its restaurant at 3008 Northwest Ave. will be closed until Sunday, Oct. 3, as it deals with a staffing shortage. The restaurant’s food truck, which is typically at 1422 N. Forest St., will remain open this week.

LockBreaker Escapes announced that it plans to put in an escape room at the former Upfront Theatre space at 1208 Bay St. The company plans to have the space ready in November to give people opportunities to figure out puzzles in an escape room setting.

After being closed throughout the pandemic, the Upfront Theatre has been reborn as a non-profit organization and is now at 207 Prospect St., in the Sylvia Art Center. Details can be found on its website.

The Mount Bakery cafe in Fairhaven has brought back indoor seating seven days a week. Customers who want to dine indoors will need to show proof of vaccination and wear masks when not eating.

Wednesday, Sept. 29, is National Coffee Day and Bellingham’s Camber cafe is teaming up with Bellingham’s Onyx Coffee Importers for a new release.

Camber’s David Yake said in an email that this new coffee release is part of the company’s ongoing World Coffee Research Benefit Series. The coffee to be release on Sept. 29 is from a mountainside farm that is “sweet and complex with flavors of strawberry, baking chocolate, melon, and mango,” Yake said.

Camber will also be donating $10 from every 12-ounce bag sold to support World Coffee Research.

Semiahmoo Resort is rolling out a variety of activities for its Seasons of Semiahmoo: Fall Fest.

Activities at the Blaine resort include pumpkin painting, hot cider happy hour, family craft kits, spooky stories by the bonfire and movie nights that include Alfred Hitchcock features. On Halloween weekend it will have a variety of activities, including trick-or-treat events on the property and a costume contest.
