Low-packaging household goods and body products, pet aides have Bellingham business plans

Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity around Whatcom County:

Hokkai Ramen & Sushi announced on social media that it is taking a summer break and will reopen on Thursday, Aug. 19. The restaurant is at 4277 Meridian St., near Best Buy.

MW Soapworks, a Bellingham artisan soap and skincare company, has opened a brick-and-mortar store on Commercial Street, in one of the retail spaces at the Commercial Street Parking Garage.

The business has been around since 2013, participating in many farmers markets and at pop-up events, said owner Andrea Lawson in an email. Lawson said MW Soapworks has also partnered with other small independent businesses to offer other eco-friendly products at the store.

The store is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Details about the business can be found on its website.

A Bellingham building permit application was submitted to put in a business called the Living Pantry in the retail center at 2400 Yew St. The company, which sells household goods and body products with as little packaging waste as possible, has a store in Blaine. A Bellingham building permit application was submitted to put in a City Dogs Grooming facility at 1225 Roeder Ave., in the recently completed building near Bellwether Way.

The Gallery and Studio of Echo Chernik in Fairhaven will be closed Aug. 18 through Sept. 5. According to a post on Facebook, the owner will be at an exhibit in Atlanta.
