A new restaurant opens in Fairhaven, other Whatcom eateries expand services

Here’s a roundup of recent retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Port Fairhaven Fish N Chips is now open in the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Fairhaven.

The restaurant is operated by Drew Schmidt, who also owns San Juan Cruises as well as the gift shop Salish Trading Post in the building.

Menu items include cod, halibut, clam strips, shrimp, calamari, coleslaw and clam chowder. Also on the menu are chicken strips for the non-seafood eaters.

According to its website, hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

Mambo Italiano Cafe in Fairhaven announced on social media that it is bringing back its lunch menu starting Monday, June 7. Along with rolling out the lunch menu, Mambo is also expanding its dinner options.

Mallard Ice Cream at 1323 Railroad Ave. has reopened its indoor shop area, so customers can now place orders inside rather than along the sidewalk. Masks are required inside the business as Whatcom County continues to recover during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the Bellingham Bells baseball season now underway, Boundary Bay has brought back its Fielder’s Choice IPA, which can be found at Joe Martin Field and at the brewery.

Cosmic Games announced on Facebook that it is moving into a new space in the coming weeks. Currently in Bakerview Square, the role-playing game store is moving to 3920 Meridian St. in the former Carter’s clothing store space near Marshalls.

After taking a break for a few weeks, Wake ‘N Bakery is back open in Glacier. The bakery’s summer hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, open until 5 p.m. on the weekends.

An art nouveau gallery recently opened in Fairhaven. It’s called The Gallery and Studio of Echo Chernik and it is in the Sycamore Square building near The Black Cat restaurant. Hours are noon-9 p.m. on Thursday, an hour later on Friday and Saturday.

Herb’s Cider has reopened its tasting room in a new location. It’s at the company’s production facility at 3155 Mercer Ave., near Marine Drive and Cocoanut Grove.
