This private club is opening to all during pandemic, and convenience store planned downtown
The Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club recently completed $3.8 million in capital improvements and is opening the private golf course in April and May to the general public.
Improvements include new golf carts, new roofs for the clubhouse building, upgrades to improve course drainage and a new irrigation system.
Community members can play the private golf course for $80 a day through April (with rates increasing to $125 per day in May), including green fee and range access. The offer will continue until the Canadian border reopens, at which time the golf course will return to member-only access.

In other recent retail activity around Whatcom County:
▪ A couple more downtown Bellingham businesses have announced either expanded services or have reopened during Phase 3 of the state’s Healthy Washington plan.
Pepper Sisters will begin offering indoor dining beginning Tuesday, April 27. According to a Facebook post, the restaurant is training additional staff as it prepares for the increased services. The 33-year-old restaurant on 1055 N. State St. currently offers outdoor patio seating and takeout options.
Nearby, The Racket recently reopened at 1220 N. State St. The pinball bar and lounge has a variety of COVID-19 rules in place, according to a Facebook post. It is open 4 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Sunday.
▪ Daylight Properties has put up for-lease signs for one of its retail spots in the Herald Building. Formerly home to the Big Love Juice Bar, the 1,643-square-foot restaurant space includes a mezzanine level.
Big Love Juice Bar’s Fairhaven location is at 1144 10th St., near the South Bay Trail.
▪ A building permit application was submitted to put in a convenience store at 200 E. Maple St., near the Depot Market Square in downtown Bellingham. An application was also submitted to put in an acupuncture studio at 701 E. Holly St., near City Dogs Grooming.
▪ The Alaska Wild Fish & Chips Company announced on Facebook that it has acquired a new food truck and will open a month early. It plans to open on Saturday, May 1, at its regular location in the Blaine Harbor at 235 Marine Drive in Blaine.
